Very irritating 
Looking for a bearing type that has a cup or something to stop sideways motion of a shaft.
Pillow block is just for support right? (And then if anyone knows a toy/cheap source of those?)

I am not too sure what you mean. But I think you may mean Tapered Roller bearings, like the ones on vehicle stub axles, etc? Instead of using Balls it uses tapered rollers contained within a cup. The bearings move alone the race within the cup.
Pillow Block??
